Frank Bridge composed the Phantasy Piano Quartet in 1910, in the style of a 16th century fancy'. Consisting of one movement, the Phantasy is something of an entire four movement piano quartet compressed into 12 minutes and played straight through. Stylistically, Bridge's work could be described as Brahmsian with an impressionistic air. The piece is justifiably regarded as one of Bridge's best compositions, and should not be overlooked. So does the Washburn B8 Beginner Banjo Pak live up to that ideal? Well, in a word: no. But that's not the whole story. For the five-string neophyte, the Washburn B8 is a solid instrument, with a loud projecting sound and a relatively playable neck. And the fact that you get a chord book, pitch pipe, adjustment tools, gig bag, strap, and set of finger picks goes a long way in helping kick-start your chicken-pickin' journey. But there are a few things that the folks at Washburn might want to consider when assembling their next "Pak." Owen details what, exactly, in the video demo.
